The Power Of Love
By Evangelist Yvonne Fagon
In St John 3:16 it is written, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoeverbelieveth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” 1 John 4:7 also encourages us to “love one another for love is of God and everyone who loveth is born of God and knoweth God.” On one occasion in St Luke 10: 25-37, an expert of the law stood up to test Jesus asking Him what he should do to inherit eternal life. Jesus replied by telling the parable of the Good Samaritan. He told him of a poor Jew who fell among thieves who was robbed, beaten, and left by the road half dead. The wounded man was ignored by a priest and a Levite (his own people). Instead, he was cared for by a stranger, a Samaritan, a people which the Jews despised and have no dealings with.

Many times we as children of God we make excuses in order to avoid helping others. A true Christian has a heart of love. if the spirit of God lives in our hearts we will display Gods image. There are three principles in this parable that Jesus taught us:

[1] Lack of love is often easy to justify even though it is never right
[2] Our neighbor is anyone from any race, creed or social background.
[3] Love means doing good to others wherever you are

This explains the deep love God has for us as sinful and miserable people. We were like the poor Jew, Satan our enemy robbed and wounded us, Jesus had compassion on us and gave His life for us .This is the command He gave all of us, to love one another. 1Corinthians 13:4-8 lists several characteristic of this Love. It is longsuffering, it's kind, it's not envious, it's not puffed up, love does not behave itself in an uncommon fashion, love does not seek its own, love is not easily provoked, love believes the best about people. Let us love not in word, but in action.
